Building Nightlight Project
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on April 30th, 2007
If light is required at night, instead of [tag]switching[/tag] on the main light it is handy to have a small [tag]nightlight[/tag] on a nearby bedside cabinet.
Your task is to design and make an imaginative light suitable for a particular user, e.g. [tag]night-lights[/tag] are often used in children’s [tag]bedrooms[/tag] to make them feel more secure and provide low level background [tag]lighting[/tag].

Robot future poses hard questions.
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on April 26th, 2007
[tag]Scientists[/tag] have expressed concern about the use of autonomous decision-making [tag]robots[/tag], particularly for military use.
As they become more common, these [tag]machines[/tag] could also have negative impacts on areas such as surveillance and elderly care, the roboticists warn.

Walking robot steps up the pace.
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on April 26th, 2007
A humanoid [tag]robot[/tag] is teaching itself to walk and eventually run around a California [tag]research[/tag] lab.
Dexter took its first tentative steps only a few days after it first discovered how to stand upright.
Dexter’s designers say their robot differs from commercially available predecessors because it can learn from its mistakes.
It is the culmination of six years’ work by Anybots, an independent research group of three [tag]engineers[/tag].

Microchip Releases New 8-bit MCU Family
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on April 17th, 2007
[tag]Microchip[/tag] Technology ,a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors has announced the 12-member [tag]PIC18F87J11[/tag] general-purpose, high-performance 8-bit [tag]microcontroller[/tag] family, which offers up to 20% greater performance with 12 MIPS (48 MHz), enhanced peripherals and lower sleep power consumption. With its breadth of family members, the PIC18F87J11 also provides a wide range of program memory and peripherals, ranging from most cost-effective to feature-rich.
Atmel Introduces 8051 Microcontrollers For High-Volume USB Applications
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on April 17th, 2007
[tag]Atmel[/tag](R) Corporation announced today the addition of three [tag]ROM[/tag] devices to its family of standard
[tag]8051[/tag]-based [tag]USB[/tag] [tag]microcontrollers[/tag]. Complementing the available [tag]Flash[/tag] versions, the new devices are especially suited for high-volume applications where cost matters more than flexibility and where the code is stable.
Based on Atmel’s 8051 X2 core which executes an instruction in 6 clock periods, the new [tag]AT83C5134[/tag], [tag]AT83C5135[/tag] and [tag]AT83C5136[/tag] have 8-, 16- and 32-Kbytes of ROM code memory, respectively. In addition, two variants of the 32-Kbytes version are available: AT83EC5136 and AT83EI5136 which include 512 bytes and 32 Kbytes, respectively, of EEPROM for data storage.
The products feature a USB Full-Speed controller, UART, SPI and a two wire Interface allowing an easy connection to companion devices. Read the rest of this entry »
Printer Port Interfacing LTC1298.
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on April 13th, 2007
The LTC1298 are [tag]micropower[/tag], 12-bit, successive [tag]approximation[/tag] sampling A/D converters. They typically draw only 250 uA of supply current when converting and automatically power down to a typical supply current of 1nA whenever they are not performing conversions. They are packaged in 8-pin SO packages and operate on 5V to 9V supplies. These 12-bit, switched-capacitor, successive approximation ADCs include sample-and-holds. The LTC1286 has a single differential analog input. The LTC1298 offers a software selectable 2-channel MUX. [tag]On-chip[/tag] [tag]serial ports[/tag] allow efficient data transfer to a wide range of microprocessors and [tag]microcontrollers[/tag] over three wires. This, coupled with micropower consumption, makes remote location possible and facilitates transmitting data through isolation barriers. These circuits can be used in ratiometric applications or with an external reference. The high impedance analog inputs and the ability to operate with reduced spans (to 1.5V full scale) allow direct connection to sensors and transducers in many applications, eliminating the need for gain stages.
We had the idea to build the [tag]ADC[/tag] or analog-to-digital converter [tag]board[/tag] that we have using Pacific compiler for DOS. We thought we can use old 486 PC with minimum resource. The homemade converter board can tie to the available standard PC printer port. There are many pages describe how to use such printer port for homemade projects.

Building Clock Controller with 8051
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on April 5th, 2007
This Project was designed to be an exemplary with in C language [tag]programming[/tag] to control [tag]timer[/tag]0 interrupt,LED type of [tag]7 segment[/tag] and key buttom scanning. It provides 1-bit sink current driving output, for driving a [tag]relay[/tag], opto-triac, say. Many projects requiring 7-segment display and key buttom to [tag]interface[/tag] should be get the idea from the [tag]Clock[/tag] [tag]circuit diagram[/tag] and software.
THE DS1307
The [tag]DS1307[/tag] is a Serial Timekeeping Chip that will count seconds, minutes, hours, date of the month, month, day of the week, and year with leap year compensation. It has 56 bytes of nonvolatile RAM for data storage, 2-wire serial interface, a programmable square wave output, and automatic power fail detect and switch circuitry. The DS1307 requires the use of a 32.768 KHz quartz crystal with a load capacitance of 12.5pF for the internal clock oscillator circuitry. An external 3 volt battery is used to maintain the internal RAM data.
THE ATMEL AT89C2051 MICROCONTROLLER
The [tag]AT89C2051[/tag] is an 8-Bit [tag]Microcontroller[/tag] with 2Kbytes [tag]Flash[/tag] Program Memory. I prefer using this micro due to its quick programming and ease of use.
